Simpson Strong-Tie’s Fasteners & Connectors Resist the Elements

9/26/2016 by kamcony

In October 2012 Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on the New Jersey and New York coastlines, and since then the building industry has been making improvements to make sure future homes are strong enough to resist a similar event. One key to building strong homes is using the proper connections and fasteners between building materials.

For coastal areas vulnerable to flooding, Simpson Strong-Tie offers fasteners for exterior use near salt water. Structural screws have become a preferred method of fastening due to their strength and ease of installation, but in coastal environments, those screws must have a coating that can resist the elements and minimize corrosion. Simpson Strong-Tie provides a variety of fasteners and metal connectors in Stainless Steel and Hot Dipped Galvanized finishes, as recommended by the Build Code for flood/coastal zones, including the Strong Drive SDWH TIMBER-HEX HDG Screw and the Strong-Drive SDWH TIMBER-HEX SS Screw.

Simpson Strong-Tie has also developed I-Joist hanger options that solve several ongoing issues for builders. The ITS top mount and IUS face mount joist hangers use no nails on the I-Joist itself, reducing the floor squeaks that result from improperly installed nails or hardware. Another line of hangers were designed to go over drywall for firewall assemblies, including face mount (DU/DHU) and top mount (DHUTF) options.

Not sure which joist hanger you need? Use Simpson Strong-Tie’s online Joist Hanger Selector to help you choose the right hanger for your projects.
